Inserts buttons for social bookmarks such as Digg, Del.icio.us, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, Reddit and many more

Nearly any informative content page with a high Google ranking these days is loaded with quick options for social bookmarking, and being able to add this capability to pages is one of the most frequently requested design components I get for clients in pretty much every field out there. There are a handful of ways to get social bookmarking options added to pages, but if you work with Dreamweaver, I think this extension is a great solution. Incredibly inexpensive and quick to download and install, the extension will lead you through the whole process of getting these options incorporated into a page. A full range of networking sites are available, from staples like Digg and Reddit to less prevalent hot spots like Mixx and Simpy (along with options to add the bookmark to the visitor’s browser directly).
Designers will appreciate the extension for its ability to automatically identify and fill in the page url and title. While you can modify this yourself if you’d like, the extension will take care of the job on default so that creating dynamic pages doesn’t present a coding problem. With this option, adding social bookmarking capabilities to a page is really just a matter of hitting the button in Dreamweaver, selecting the networks to be used, and hitting return. The user will need Javascript installed to render the options correctly, but this is true of most bookmarking inserters I’ve seen. A great bargain.

Inserts a facebook-imitating customizable select control for forms, with search within options and autocomplete

If you’ve ever appreciated the sleek design and easy navigation of Facebook’s option selection system for forms, you’ll probably get a kick out of this Dreamweaver extension. Taking care of issues such as auto-complete, holding down control or command to select multiple options within a list, and the creation of subordinate or relational lists, this widget creates a beautiful all-in-one solution for forms that can make site users really appreciate the convenience of filling stuff out online. On the design side, working with the widget might be a little tricky at first if you’re not used to CSS, but with a basic knowledge and a little practice you can customize the widget to operate and look exactly how you’d like.
This is far from being a one-hit wonder kind of extension; you can use it for pretty much any site where forms need to be filled out, such as in registration or search functions (I think this covers nearly every site out there). Downloading and installing the extension didn’t create any problems whatsoever, and the price is pretty great considering how often the widget can be used. One of my favorite extensions, both from a visual and functional perspective.

Inserts Ajax-powered user comments with rich formatting option, ratings; allows to communicate with authors

Adding a basic feedback capability to a site without having to commit to an entire content management system is a useful function for designers, and this extension can create attractive guestbooks with a few different features for making feedback easy. Design clients and their site visitors will appreciate the basic layout of this guestbook system, which has options for standard fields such as name, email, and comment, along with the ability to rate the site, post, or whatever is being discussed. Webmasters can enjoy very simple guestbook system creation, without any sacrifices in terms of capabilities; sending comments to a specified email address, creating private messages, and moderating guestbook entries are all available with a couple of clicks.
Using the extension is fast and easy, and shouldn’t present a problem for people who like to stick with Dreamweaver’s design view when creating pages. I think the price is a little high for this product, but if you like the visual appeal and ease of use of this particular guestbook system, it’s probably a good value as the majority of sites can benefit from a custom feedback option. If you’re looking for a guestbook without any frills or you can handle some basic coding on your own, though, you might want to stick with a less sophisticated extension for this purpose. Nice design overall, and appreciably useful.

Integrates Twitter services into your website: displays Twitter status, inserts Follow Me buttons, places tweets into content blocks

    • graphix guy 1:26 pm on July 28, 2009 Permalink

As Twitter explodes in popularity, design clients wanting some sort of integration are becoming ever more demanding about getting great functionality and god looks, and there’s a clear need for a simple, comprehensive solution for integrating Twitter with sites. I like this extension, which operates as a toolbar within Dreamweaver, because it takes care of everything in a few steps, and is simple without limiting options. From a design perspective, the extension is fully customizable with CSS, so you can tweak the resulting Twitter widget to perfectly match the site on which it will appear. There are also scores of “follow me” graphics to choose from, letting your clients know they’re getting the most modern and competitive look for their money.
The widget is pretty easy to configure; all you have to do is provide the account access information, set a limit for the number of tweets you want to appear, and set the widget dimensions. The extension takes care of all the linking, url directing, icon and username grabbing, and so on. If you’re uncomfortable with coding, you can still use this extension for pages that want to look hip and get the full benefit from social media and networking. The price on this extension is very fair, as setting this sort of thing up unassisted would be a pretty big undertaking. If you design modern sites, you’ll probably get a lot of use out of it, as well. Nice value!
